The Health and Safety Director, Water Hygiene (HSD WH), will lead the Water Hygiene organisation’s health, safety, and compliance strategy across national operations, ensuring a safe, compliant work environment aligned with industry standards. This role is essential for establishing consistent safety practices across integrated entities, supporting growth, and maintaining operational excellence.  This role will also be responsible, as agreed, for central activities in partnership with the Health and Safety Director for Water Treatment (HSD WT)


What You’ll Do

  • Lead by example in your own approach to Health and Safety.
  • Lead a high performing team that enables a health and safety culture in partnership with the business, adheres to regulatory requirements, is continually improving and meets the objectives of the Group Health and Safety policy and those for the Company and Department.
  • Develop and implement robust health and safety strategies for Water Hygiene, ensuring adherence to UK legislation and industry best practice.
  • Complete health and safety due diligence for any acquisitions as required.
  • Lead harmonisation of health and safety practices across integrated water Hygiene business entities.
  • Work in partnership with the HSD WT, to ensure that the Group strategy, policy, arrangements, communications, training, harmonisation and central monitoring and reporting are in place and optimised across the Group.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections, proactively addressing potential hazards.
  • Collaborate with leadership to foster a proactive safety culture, supporting continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Oversee incident management and investigation processes, providing insights to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure appropriate reporting is in place to enable leadership to have an accurate picture of health and safety performance.  Provide all data required for the HSEQ leadership meeting and board report accurately and in a timely manner. Lead and drive key stats trend analysis to improve ways of working and create meaningful visual metrics.
  • Manage health and safety training to ensure employees are up to date, informed and aligned with best practices.
  • Work in partnership with the HSD WT, and lead in WH, to ensure communication across the Group meets the needs of the audience and delivers the expected outcomes in health and safety awareness, culture and targets.
  • Involvement as required in disaster recovery strategies and operational delivery.
  • Lead initiatives to improve NMR/accident reduction etc.
  • Engage and work with the Safety Champion networks championing key feedback and improved ways of working.
  • Lead and implement formal process reviews with Operations.
  • Provide cover for the HSD WT in their absence.
  • Lead on any other activities, designated to you, relevant to your role.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent; Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) preferred.
  • Extensive experience in a senior health and safety role within a multi-site or national organisation.
  • Keeps up to date with the relevant legislation and best practice
  • Excellent knowledge of UK health and safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Experience in the Water Hygiene, or equivalent, sector (desirable)
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with proven experience driving cultural change.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail
  • Can demonstrate they can work to deadlines but are also adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Can demonstrate they remain calm, can problem solve and make decisions in a high-pressure environment.
  • Analytical and able to identify trends to focus priorities to minimise risk.
  • Can demonstrate a continual improvement mindset and operational delivery.
